Motivation is widely recognized as a key factor in successful language teaching and learning. In today’s globalized world, foreign language proficiency has become essential for intercultural communication and international cooperation. However, language acquisition is a complex, long-term process that requires sustained effort and engagement. Scholars such as Gardner (1985) define motivation as the combination of desire, effort, and positive attitudes toward the target language, while Dörnyei (2001) views it as dynamic and influenced by classroom and social contexts. This article explores the theoretical foundations and types of motivation, focusing on both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. It also highlights how teachers can create supportive learning environments that maintain learners’ interest and foster long-term success in language education.
