Abstract

In modern education systems, language learning is increasingly connected with the development of cognitive and analytical skills, particularly critical thinking. Traditional approaches to language teaching often prioritize grammatical accuracy and memorization, while contemporary pedagogical models emphasize communication, problem-solving, and learner-centered instruction. This study investigates the role of problem-solving-based activities in enhancing critical thinking skills within English language learning contexts. The research focuses on how structured tasks that require analysis, evaluation, and decision-making contribute to both linguistic development and higher-order thinking skills. A qualitative approach is applied, based on classroom observations and analysis of learner performance during task-based activities. The findings suggest that problem-solving tasks significantly improve students’ engagement, promote collaborative interaction, and encourage deeper cognitive processing. Learners demonstrate increased ability to justify opinions, compare alternatives, and express complex ideas in English. The study concludes that integrating problem-solving activities into language education is an effective strategy for simultaneously developing language proficiency and critical thinking abilities, which are essential for academic success and real-world communication.
